Welcome back to the B&G Report! Hope you enjoyed the “Rookie Spotlight” feature on Montae Nicholson. It’s gonna be rapid fire with the focus shifting to the MNF Showdown with the Philadelphia Eagles!
The Washington Redskins travel to Lincoln Financial Filed in what’s know as one of the most hostile environments in professional sports. The last meeting in week #1 was a 30-17 loss to the Eagles. The score really doesn’t show how close the game actually was though. Kirk Cousins finished the game 23/40 240 YP 1/1. Cousins has come a long way since that loss and all the receiver drops in that game sure didn’t help. I believe the Skins need to think more like the Chiefs and less like the Redskins tonight. What I mean by that is the standard “Jay Gruden Playbook” needs to be thrown out the window tonight! This Eagles defense just doesn’t let teams run on them. In the previous matchup Gruden called 10 of 13 runs on 1st down, now that’s down right predictable! So when I say think more like the Chiefs, what I mean is using more offense formations like Jet Sweeps, Read Options and yes I’ll say scream it again “THE WILDCAT FORMATION WITH PRYOR”. Although I expect more Doctson tonight and less Pryor. The Eagles defense is very good, but they have weakness against the pass. Eagles best DB Darby has been ruled out, so the Skins need to attack the Eagles inexperienced defenders. Jordan Reed is sorely needed tonight, if he can attract attention this will open up things for the rest of the Skins pass catchers.
On defense the Skins will be without John Allen. As I’ve previously mentioned, my under the radar player going back to last year is D-lineman Anthony Lanier II. The Alabama A&M product has gained nearly 30 lbs of muscle in the off-season. I’m looking for Lanier to use his 6’6 height and basketball athleticism to overwhelm the Eagles interior line. As for Josh Norman he is sitting out once again while his broken rib heals. I expect to see Dunbar and Fuller to really step up and make some plays tonight, against the Eagles receivers. Breeland is active, but is playing on a sprained knee. It might not be long before we see Fabian Morea and fellow rookie Joshua Holsey tonight as well. I’m looking for a defensive battle and the DB’s will need to possibly win the game for the Skins. In the end I’m predicting a fumble recovery by rookie Montae Nicholson, which he’ll return for the winning TD.
FINAL SCORE
26-22
